VirtualBox è un programma per far girare contemporaneamente più sistemi operativi su un solo computer, e di poter passare da un sistema all'altro in tempo reale con tanto di copia e incolla, condivisioni delle periferiche, connessione internet ecc. In poche parole è come avere più computer su uno solo, con VirtualBox potete installare anche decine di sistemi operativi, ad esempio Windows XP, Vista, 7, Linux varie distribuzioni, ecc. Utile per testare programmi o per navigare in sicurezza su Internet.

Un normale utente non ha necessità di installare un programma simile, invece è molto utile agli smanettoni che vogliono provare più sistemi operativi, ad esempio le varie distribuzioni Linux senza dover creare ogni volta un CD di installazione, oppure se hai un programma di vecchia data che non gira sull'ultima versione di Windows, o ancora per testare i programmi prima di installarli sul sistema principale.

• Windows Additions: don't load the WDDM driver if 3D support is not available for Windows 8 guests to keep the guest maintainable in that case (still better to miss some features than providing a blank screen)
• Solaris Additions: added support for X.org Server 1.11 and 1.12
